| As a Holding Company RAO UES of Russia plays the leading role in
Russia’s power sector: Installed capacity As of 01.01.2000
the installed capacity of the Holding Company amounted to 156,200 MW or 72.7 per cent of
the installed capacity of all of Russia’s power stations. The Holding Company’s fossil
fuel power stations make up 78.4 per cent of national installed capacity (122,400 MW) and
its hydro power stations account for 21.6 per cent (33,800 MW). As of 01.01.2000 the
installed capacity of federal-level electricity generating stations, which form part of
the Holding Company, was 44,700 MW, made up of 27,800 MW of fossil fuel power stations
capacity and 16,900 MW of hydro power station capacity. In 1999 the installed capacity of
the holding company’s electricity generating stations increased by 600 MW or one per
cent, with fossil fuel power station capacity up by 400 MW and federal-level hydro power
station capacity up by 200 MW.
In 1999 electricity
produced by the companies in the holding structure amounted to 602.2 billion kWh
or 71.2% of the entire output of Russia. The Holding Company’s fossil fuel power
stations produced 94.6 per cent of the national figure, while its hydro power stations
produced 70.2 per cent.
Heat energy produced within the Holding Company amounted to 481.6 million
Gcal or 34.9 per cent of production in the Russian Federation.
In 1999 wholesale trade in electricity via FOREM amounted to 282.0
billion kWh. FOREM’s share of overall deliveries of electricity to the grids of the
Unified Energy System of Russia increased in 1999 from 36 to 38 per cent. Taking into
account the acquisition from FOREM of electricity from other producers, companies in the
Holding Company supplied the consumer market with 567.6 billion kWh. Heat energy supplied
to consumers in 1999 by RAO UES of Russia amounted to 453.6 million Gcal.
As of 01.01.2000 the overall length of electric power transmission lines
owned by companies in the Holding Company amounted to 2,579,600 kilometres, which is 96.3
per cent of the total for the sector. The total length of main system electric power
transmission lines within the Holding Company was 143,600 kilometres, with 43,400
kilometres belonging to the Company. During 1999 the total length of electric power
transmission lines increased by 4,900 kilometres, of which 1,500 kilometres consisted of
high-voltage lines.
The average number of employees working for major companies within the
Holding Company in 1999 was 669,500, including 15,700 employees of the Company.
